Welcome to our 2nd edition of INsights, where we explore our thoughts on design and construction.

Insensation only sells to architects and contractors, because these trades exist to protect the investments of their clients, and ensure the products they use are durable.

When choosing frameless doors for a project, the most important aspect is the engineering of the frame and the thickness of the door leaf. Frames which are made of steel and wrap the wall like a jamb are first-generation, outdated products that will invariably cause wall cracking around the edge of the doors. It is a logical principle that anything which only has a thin skim coat of plaster, on a high-tension surface, will crack. These steel frame products are the equivalent of a Model T Ford, useful at its time but engineering has moved on. Most frameless doors on the US market have low quality door leafs of 1 1/2″, 1 9/16″ or 1 3/4″. A thin door is a cheap door and will have poor acoustic protection and be unable to integrate luxury door hardware.

Reliable, solid frameless doors start with a well-designed aluminum frame which is hidden under the drywall. Within this category of frameless doors, look for those with at least 2” leaf quality. More important look at the shape and fixation of the frame. Thin, tiny frames are useless as they will bend and fail. Huge, bulky frames are generally still visible after installation, making these products hardly frameless. Any frame which accepts drywall and plaster only at 90° will cause cracking to form in the wall.

Insensation frames are manufactured by one of the largest aluminum producers in Europe and designed by our engineers. Engineers know that combining two different materials like aluminum and drywall will cause those materials to separate under stress. Insensation has solved this problem over 20 years ago with our Slam Side Protection™ design is one of many unique characteristics of Insensation engineering which no other frameless door company provides.

Insensation leads the market because of our strong engineering history and has maintained this advantage almost 30 years. Stay tuned for more exciting products with Insensation proven quality in the months to come.
